How Beautiful are the Feet of the Herald: A note about parish communications.

Starting this month, St. Matthew’s is going to convert its monthly newsletter to a quarterly newsletter, being published at the start of the church program year in September, before Advent (December), before Lent (February), and following Pentecost (June). We are making this change because of the highly expanded use of the website and weekly emailing to broadcast parish news. In addition, the Sunday Bulletin, in print and on the website, also has announcements about upcoming events.

Here are some things you might not know about our parish commuications:

  1. Every week, a group of volunteers folds and mails a copy of our weekly bulletin to parishioners who are shut it or who have a hard time connecting by web, zoom, or email. Every week!

  2. We are developing a ‘blog-first’ communication strategy where almost all news about events goes into the blog first, and from there is picked up and disseminated into the Sunday Bulletin, Weekly Emailing, and Newsletter. A curated selection of the most important and current blogs appears on our home page. Some items are disseminated out into pages of the website appropriate to them. For instance, news about a musical event will appear on the Music page as well as the Home page. All blog posts live on the master blog and are not generally removed.

  3. We renew the website every August, so that the non-blog information remains current and new functions can be added.

  4. Sermon and Sunday Forum Videos will be returning! We are developing a team of lay people to process and post the video, something that takes an hour or two each week. If you’d like to be involved, let me know!
