General Timeline for Search Process

This is the expected timeline for St. Matthew’s to conduct a search for a new rector. Updates and adjustments will be made as we progress through this process. We ask for your prayers and your patience as we undertake the humbling task of finding the next spiritual leader and chief pastor for the parish.

August 2025

  • Vestry interviews and calls an Interim Rector

  • Search Committee chairperson named

August / September 2025

  • Call for nominations to the Search Committee.

September 2025

  • Interim Rector in place by the start of the 2025-26 program year

  • Nominations for Search Committee received and reviewed by wardens and Search Committee Chair

October / November 2025

  • Parish Listening Sessions held

  • October 19 Sunday Forum - Parish-wide meeting led by the Rev. Marion Sprott, Transition Ministry Officer for the NC Diocese

November / December 2025

  • Search Committee members named and the committee begins their work

  • Parish’s Office of Transition Ministry (OTM) Portfolio produced using input for listening sessions

January / February 2026

  • Office of Transition Ministry (OTM) Portfolio posted for a national search for candidates

March / April 2026

  • Search Committee receives and reviews applications

  • Candidates are narrowed down and Zoom interviews are conducted

  • Two to four final candidates selected

  • In-person interviews scheduled

April / May / June 2026

  • Search Committee conducts in-person interviews

  • One candidate is selected and presented to the Vestry

  • Vestry considers and votes on the candidate

  • Bishop asked for permission to call the candidate to be rector

July / August 2026

  • New rector is announced.

  • New rector begins their ministry at St. Matthew’s in time for the start of the 2026-27 program year.
