Rectory Repairs Steam Ahead!

After digging new drains around the rectory foundation (and repairing the walls tilting out) the crew is now spreading gravel and sand as the substrate for what will be the back patio..

As Jane and I came back from vacation, we were delighted to see the work on the Rectory foundation proceeding so well. The crew had already backfilled the ditches that surrounded the rectory (Sebastian thought they were building a moat) and had begun working on the back patio. Inside, the floors had been torn up in the master bedroom, bathroom, and sitting area, and the crew had vertically removed dirt through the floor joists to create a functional crawl space.

Today, different crews are at work: relaying the floor, laying bathroom tile, and continuing the work on the outside.

I and Jane and the kids are super grateful for the parish for taking this work on, not only for us, but stabilizing the rectory for many rectors to come. Having a house in downtown Hillsborough and right next to the church is a nearly priceless gift for rectors and their families. It provides an easing meshing of ministry and family life and puts Matthew’s Chocolates and Purple Crow Books, among other thing, within walking distance. I’m grateful to Jeff Hopper for taking this work on, to Chris Peterson and Charlie McCamy for spearheading the project as Junior Wardens, and to David Hays for leading the Capital Campaign for Rectory Renewal last spring. I’m grateful to all of you, and your generosity, for it happen.

God Bless,

Robert+
