Newly Commissioned Communion Setting

From Dr. David Arcus -

I am honored and humbled to offer a music setting for the Eucharist in commemoration of St. Matthew's 200th anniversary. A commissioned musical work is an appropriate way to celebrate the Parish's legacy, and it also defines this current moment in its history. The challenge of writing new congregational music is to create something that sounds fresh and original but also feels sufficiently familiar and accessible. A Communion setting intensifies the challenge that people will embrace it on a weekly basis. This is when the composer hopes that conception will meet perception with a sacred kiss -- where service music says, in effect, "Take this and sing. This is for the glory of God," and the people respond: "Amen!"

I am grateful to The Rev. Robert Fruehwirth, Dr. Jason Wright, and all of St. Matthew's for welcoming this opportunity as part of its celebrations. I look forward to seeing everyone on September 22!
