Feast of the Ascension Eucharist Thursday, May 29 | 6:30pm

In the rhythm of the church year, the Feast of the Ascension is a moment of profound theological beauty and spiritual reflection. Occurring forty days after Easter, it commemorates the risen Christ’s return to God—not as an ending, but as a continuation of God's saving work through the Church.

In the Ascension, we proclaim a central tenet of our faith: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. Jesus, having conquered death, ascends in glory—not to abandon us, but to take his place at the right hand of God and prepare the way for the coming of the Holy Spirit. It is from this place of heavenly authority that Christ intercedes for us and reigns over all creation.

The Ascension also affirms our call to be the Church in the world. Before he ascended, Jesus entrusted his disciples with a mission: to go into all the world, bearing witness to the Gospel. We, as members of his body, continue that work—empowered by the Holy Spirit, nourished by Word and Sacrament, and grounded in the hope of His promised return.

Though often under-observed in modern times, the Ascension remains one of the Principal Feasts of the Church. It draws our gaze upward—not to escape the world, but to remember that our lives are hidden with Christ in God.

You are warmly invited to join us for a celebration of this holy day at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church on Thursday, May 29, at 6:30 p.m. Let us gather to rejoice in the mystery of Christ's Ascension and abiding presence.
