Faith & the Arts Feb. 13, 7:30 pm: Listening for the Hidden Voices
Paul Green and the Power of Theatre to Move Cultural Norms
Activist, author, and champion of the arts, Paul Green of Chapel Hill worked on behalf of the wrongly convicted, those silenced in the Jim Crow era by racism, and those facing the death penalty. His plays and stories were lanterns he held up to shed light on the abuses of the American carceral system.
In a new anthology of essays by thirteen North Carolina writers, playwright Lynden Harris and actor/director Kathryn Hunter Williams reflect on Green’s activism and their own contemporary theatre work with the nonprofit “Hidden Voices.”
Join us on the evening of February 13 as Harris & Williams share some of their thoughts about where we are today, Green’s impact, and offer a sample from a current production in process. The session will be moderated by Georgann Eubanks, director of the Paul Green Foundation. No tickets are necessary though donations are encouraged and will be accepted at the door. Proceeds will benefit the work of Hidden Voices and support future offerings from Faith & the Arts.
