Choral Evensong for the Feast of St. Matthew, 9/21 at 4
Each year, our parish joyfully gathers to celebrate the Feast of St. Matthew, Apostle and Evangelist, our patron saint. This year’s celebration carries special significance as it falls within our Bicentennial year — a moment to give thanks for two centuries of faithful witness and to look ahead with renewed hope.
On Sunday, September 21, 2025, at 4:00 p.m., the parish will mark the feast with a service of Choral Evensong, one of the Anglican tradition’s richest offerings of prayer and praise. Rooted in scripture and shaped by centuries of music and devotion, Evensong invites us into a holy space of beauty, stillness, and song. The Parish Choir will lead us in psalms, canticles, and anthems that lift our hearts in thanksgiving to God. The concluding hymn of the service was recently composed by our director of music, Jason Wright.
St. Matthew’s story is one of transformation and calling. Once a publican and tax collector, he was summoned by Christ to lay aside his old life and become a disciple, an apostle, and ultimately the writer of the first Gospel. His witness reminds us that no life is beyond God’s call, and that discipleship means not only hearing Christ’s voice but also answering with courage. As a parish bearing his name, we draw strength and inspiration from his journey of faith.
Following the service, all are warmly invited to a reception in the Parish Hall. This will be a time to gather in fellowship, welcome neighbors and friends, and celebrate the gift of community that has sustained St. Matthew’s for generations.
We hope you will join us for this meaningful occasion as we honor our patron saint, give thanks for our history, and look forward in faith.
