All Saints and All Souls 2023

OUR ALL SAINTS AND ALL SOULS OBSERVANCE FOR 2023

Wednesday Nov 1, 12pm: Our usual weekday Eucharist, but with music. It will start with All Saints and transition to an All Souls remembrance by the end.

Sunday Nov 5, 8am and 10:30am: All Saints celebration.

Sunday Nov 5, 9:15am: Village Church with Dia de Los Muertos.

The Episcopal Church traditionally celebrates the Feast of All Saints on Nov 1 (or the Sunday following) and observes All Souls on Nov 2.

On All Saints Day we celebrate the communion of holy women and holy men with that we get to be a part. This includes the great saints of ages past (St. Francis, St. Benedict, St. Brigit) and present (Mother Teresa, Thomas Merton, Oscar Romero). It includes too the holy ones known to God alone. Holiness happens when a human life is intersected by the divine and surrendered to it and the saints show us the countless ways that this can happen.

On All Souls Day we recognize our distance from this holiness in our lives now and in the lives of people close to us who have already died but whom we hold in prayer.

If All Saints is a wide-open celebration, All Souls is more reflective, prayerful, and remembrance
