Epiphany Bonfire & Chili Cook Off - Jan 5, 5pm
Mark your calendars for St. Matthew's first big event of the New Year--the bonfire and Chili Cook-Off on Sunday, January 5th, 2025. If you would like to help build the bonfire, bring your sad, dried-up greens and poor old Christmas trees to the Fellowship Hall parking lot anytime after December 30th. On Sunday, January 5th, starting at 5pm, the trees will be heaped into a huge pile and set ablaze as darkness falls. Carols will be sung as the trees go heavenward in glorious flames.
Following the bonfire, there will be a competition for the best chili in the categories of meat, poultry and vegetarian. A winner will be chosen from each category by our distinguished panel of expert chili judges and ribbons will be awarded. If you want your chili judged, please have it in Fellowhip Hall by 5 pm. Chicken nuggets will be offered to children who are not quite ready for chili. Feel free to bring cornbread, muffins or rolls. Drinks will be provided. Don't miss it!
Also starting on January 5th you can sign up for 2025 dinner groups. Dinner groups are a great way to get to know others in the parish on a more personal basis. The sign-up sheets will be on the credenza outside Sonja's office for several weeks, after which Parish Life will organize the new groups. If you need more information, reach out to Carolyn Carlson (cjcarlson3245@hotmail.com) or ask anyone who has been in dinner groups in the past.
