Holy Week 2026
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
In the fourth century a Spanish Nun named Egeria traveled from Spain to the Holy Land
to see how Holy Week and Easter were celebrated and remembered in the very place
where those events took place. People still feel that call to be as close as possible to
the actual events leading up to the death and resurrection of the Savior of the world.
For us here at Saint Matthew’s and across modern Christendom Holy Week invites us to
“come in”, to put our very selves into the moments that make up the glorious entry of
Christ into Jerusalem, and then to follow, day by day, the descent into Jesus’ final hours.
This is a roller coaster week of real emotion and growing faith as we live out these days
together. “Together” is the crucial word. Jesus lived and died through this week with his
followers. When we gather in his Name we are together in Christ. Those of us who
worship together during Holy Week are living through the week with the one we worship
and each other. Imagine, one week of focus on who the Savior is and why we gather to
worship him year in and year out. Please consider being here each evening – a special
practice to make the Resurrection real.
God Bless,
Susan+
