HARK: An Advent Quiet Day with Mary and the Four Daughters of God | Nov. 23rd

November 23, 10-3pm with a simple lunch at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Hillsborough NC. Suggested donation, $15. Reservations requested. Please reserve a space here.

This is an offering of the St. Matthew’s chapter of the Daughters of the King.

Do you love a calm, happy Advent anticipating the arrival of a little baby? Or is your primary association with Advent HERE COMES THE FINAL JUDGMENT? If you’re caught between both, or unsettled by either, you’re not alone!

Join Joanna Murdoch this Advent in quiet, contemplative play to wonder, with Mary, “how can this be?” — and to tune into the medieval tradition of the Four Daughters of God (Mercy, Truth, Righteousness, Peace).

These holy allegorical ladies starred in complex medieval dramas of grace and judgment. We’ll come alongside them and linger, as we wait for the arrival of God’s Word, in a series of playful fours:

• Four songs to listen to.
• Four tables with contemplative prompts.
• Four invitations to open-hearted creative response through writing, drawing, and creature comforts.

We’ll close with time for reflection and sharing.

Bring a notebook, a pen or pencil, and a little tube of lotion that you like. We’ll provide the ambience and activities—and enter Advent anew, together!
