Faith & Arts Event: Poetry Book Launch - March 21
Incantations: Poems by Darnell Arnoult with introduction by poet Denton Loving and music by Alison Weiner Thursday, March 21 at 6:30 pm in the Church
Join us for the launch of parishioner Darnell Arnoult’s latest book of poetry. Especially suited to the Lenten season, Incantations speaks of grief, upheaval, derision, disappointment, and change of all kinds. This evocative collection unleashes frustration and both admonishes and rails.
Arnoult has garnered several awards for her work over the years, including the SIBA Poetry Book of the Year prize. Her previous books include the novel Sufficient Grace (Simon & Schuster, 2006), and poetry collections What Travels With Us and Galaxie Wagon (LSU Press, 2005 & 2016). Fellow poet Jesse Graves (Said-Songs: Essays on Poetry and Place) writes, “Darnell Arnoult has written some of the South’s most memorable poems of the past quarter-centry, and Incantations is her most evocative and mysterious book.… Listen. Let the widening spell of Incantations transport you through dark portals and back into the welcome and needed light.”
A light reception and book signing will follow. This event is co-sponsored by the Purple Crow Books.
