Candlemas - Sunday, February 2

Candlemas, celebrated yearly on February 2, is a Christian feast marking the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple and the Purification of Mary, as described in Luke 2:22–40. This year, the Feast Day falls on a Sunday and takes priority over the assigned lectionary readings. Traditionally, it is a day when candles are blessed, symbolizing Christ as the Light of the World. The feast falls 40 days after Christmas and has roots in both Jewish purification rituals and early Christian traditions. Join us on Sunday at the 10:30am service where we will mark the occasion with the blessing of candles, a candlelit procession, and scripture and music that reflects the themes of the day.
