Dr. Pauli Murray (1910–1985) was a pioneering American civil rights activist, legal scholar, feminist and Episcopal priest. A deeply influential figure in 20th-century history, Murray shaped the legal strategies for desegregation and gender equality, and was the first African American woman ordained as an Episcopal priest.
