Fellowship and Hospitality
We enjoy feasting and fellowship with one another. Various events are offered throughout the year, some focused on the liturgical seasons and traditions of the Church and others on traditions particular to St. Matthew’s. Read on for some of the fun events that we host each year.
-
Coffee Hour
All are welcome for this time of visiting and refreshment after the 8:00 and 10:30 am services. Children often list it as a highlight of their day.
-
Dinner Groups
Dinner groups are made up of 7 - 9 folks who get together to enjoy a meal and get to know one another better. The meal can be a dinner at someone’s home with everyone contributing a course, or an evening out at a restaurant.
-
Summer Brunches
Join us between the services for monthly summertime brunch. Everyone is invited to bring a dish to share and come and enjoy feasting and fellowship with one another.
-
Taco Wednesday
All are welcome to this informal community-wide gathering the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month at 5:45 pm. Contact Anne Kenyon (amjk816@gmail.com) or Megan Leiss (leiss.megan@gmail.com) for more information.
-
Epiphany Traditions
Each Epiphany (in January), parishioners are invited to bring their old Christmas trees for a bonfire and Carol Sing, followed by a chili cook off dinner. Parishioners are invited to make their favorite chili followed by delicious King’s Cake to mark this special Church feast day.
-
Secret Pals Breakfast
Around Valentine’s Day, children are paired with a “secret” adult whose identity is unknown to them. Their pal sends notes, clues and treats the week before the breakfast. This culminates in the Secret Pal Breakfast on Sunday morning, where the children meet their pal and enjoy playing games and having a fun breakfast.
-
Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper
This happens every year on the Tuesday evening right before Ash Wednesday. Hosted by the men of the parish, all are invited to come and feast on pancakes and other goodies. Children decorate the Alleluia banner, which then disappears for the season of Lent, only to reappear at Easter. Palm fronds from last year’s Palm Sunday are burned in anticipation of the imposition of ashes on Ash Wednesday.
-
Talent Show
At the end of their Growing in Christ program year, the third - fifth graders host a parish-wide Talent Show, where different parishioners are invited to contribute their talent. We hope to have you participate in the future!
