RJRC Book Discussion: “Picking Cotton”
"Few stories of wrongful convictions have happy endings, but (this one) is far different." John Grisham found it to be a "powerful account of violence, rage, redemption, and, ultimately, forgiveness."
Join the Racial Justice and Reconciliation Committee for a discussion of the book Picking Cotton that relates the true story of a rape that occured in Burlington, NC, the young white woman who picked a black man out of a police lineup, the conviction and incarceration of that innocent man, and finally his exoneration. Most surprising is the eventual friendship between the authors, Jennifer Thompson-Cannino and Ronald Cotton.
We will meet on zoom on the Formation channel on Monday, November 9th at 7 pm. Copies of the book are available in the Graebner Room.
