A New Sanctus for the Season After Epiphany
Beginning Sunday, January 11, 2026 – 10:30 a.m. Service

As we enter the joyful light of the Epiphany season, our parish will begin singing a new Sanctus at the 10:30 a.m. service. Starting on the First Sunday after the Epiphany, January 11, 2026, we will introduce Sanctus S-127, composed by Calvin Hampton—one of the most influential American church musicians of the 20th century.

Hampton (1938–1984), an Episcopal musicians and composer, served for many years at Calvary Episcopal Church in New York City, where his musical leadership and innovative liturgical approach elevated him to national prominence. His hymn tunes, chant settings, and organ works remain widely loved throughout the Episcopal Church and beyond. Many parishes across the country use Hampton’s S-127, and my hope is that in time, it will become familiar and beloved here at St. Matthew’s as well.

To help you begin hearing the melody, here is a recording you can listen to throughout the week:

I look forward to introducing this beautiful setting with you as we lift our voices together this Epiphany.
