Book Discussion: The Legend of Wyatt Outlaw
All are invited to a a book discussion on The Legend of Wyatt Outlaw on Saturday, March 21, 1 p.m at Mt. Bright Baptist Church.
In Reconstruction Alamance County, Wyatt Outlaw, a civil rights leader, was the town of Graham’s first Black town constable and commissioner. His murder by the Ku Klux Klan in 1870 provoked more lynchings, followed by a Republican-led “war” against the Klan, and then a thorough suppression of Black political power in the state.
Writer and North Carolina State University professor Belle Boggs and Alamance County native and activist Sylvester Allen teamed up to share their discovery of Outlaw’s life and explore the reasons why his story has been absent from mainstream histories in a new book, The Legend of Wyatt Outlaw: From Reconstruction Through Black Lives Matter.
This event sponsored by the Orange County Community Remembrance Coalition.
