Youth Sunday School is offered for 6th-12th graders weekly in the Youth Room from 9:15-10:15am. We use a 3-year series called “Re:form,” which tackles questions about the Bible, creed, discipleship, Jesus, other belief systems and hot topics. The goal of “Re:form” is to provide a foundation for lifelong faith formation by giving youth the tools for critical thinking, faithful reflection and discovery. Lessons begin with animated short videos that blend both hilarity and substance to introduce topics, followed by guided discussions and activities to help students dig deeper. Each student receives their own workbook.
Youth Group meets most Sunday evenings from 5pm-7 p.m. for dinner, fellowship, worship, and discussion of key issues at the intersection of faith and daily life for teens. Other youth group activities include service projects, Fall and Spring retreats, Christmas and Super Bowl parties, wider diocesan events, the annual Youth Service and an end of the year celebration.
Confirmation Classes for 9th and 10th grade students are offered every other year usually in the evenings from 5pm-7 p.m., alternating biweekly with Youth Group. Youth are confirmed when either Bishop Sam or Bishop Anne makes their annual visit.
Please feel free to contact Kim Powell at kim@stmatthewshillsborough.org if you have questions about youth formation. We’re glad you’re here and hope you’ll find St. Matthew’s to be a place of worship, sustenance and welcome for your family.
