Service in the World

Millennium Development Goals: The Social Ministries Committee assists the parish in honoring our commitment to meeting the Millennium Development Goals, set forth by the United Nations and adopted by the Episcopal Church. The Committee does this through seeking active partnership with a number of international organizations that are doing effective work consistent with the Millennium Development Goals. Among the organizations currently supported are: The Rainbow Centre Orphanage in Burundi, the Hope for Haiti Medical Mission, and the international work of Episcopal Relief and Development.

Episcopal Relief and Development is an international relief and development agency and a compassionate response to human suffering on behalf of The Episcopal Church of the United States. Our work to heal a hurting world is guided by the principles of compassion, dignity and generosity.

Honduras Medical Mission: St. Matthew’s joins with other churches in the area to send medically trained parishioners to Honduras to treat people in need of medical services.

Bay St. Louis partnership: St. Matthew’s sent teams of parishioners to assist with the cleanup and rebuilding of Christ Episcopal Church in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi after hurricane Katrina. Part of our outreach budget was devoted to this effort for a number of years.

United Thank Offering:  (UTO) is a ministry of The Episcopal Church for the mission of the whole church. Through United Thank Offering, men, women, and children nurture the habit of giving daily thanks to God. These prayers of thanksgiving start when we recognize and name our many daily blessings.
