Worship Schedule Matrix

The General Assembly of Colonial North Carolina originally constituted St. Matthew's Parish in 1752 as the established church in the County of Orange. The parish was reorganized in 1824 and the present building was consecrated on May 21, 1826. St. Matthew's has continued as the Episcopal parish in Hillsborough and northern Orange County from that time to the present.

St. Matthew's is a parish in the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina, the Rt. Rev. Michael B. Curry, Bishop; the Rt. Rev. Alfred C. "Chip" Marble and the Rt. Rev. William O. Gregg, Assisting Bishops.

St. Matthew's is blessed by its past and alive to the present. We welcome you to share the beauty and tranquillity of our grounds and we invite you to join us in worship and fellowship.

Feeding God's people from the abundance of God's grace

The Vision of St. Matthew's is:

  • To welcome all people to share with us in celebrating Christ's Eucharistic feast in the tradition of the Episcopal Church.

  • To nurture a multi-generational community through worship, learning, and fellowship.

  • To celebrate the gifts of the rich history and heritage of St Matthew's and look to the future in service and fellowship with our Hillsborough community.

  • To carry the spirit of Christ into the world, both locally and globally, by serving and working in partnership with others.

  • To encourage each person's spiritual growth through individual and communal service and ministry.

  • To show respect and gratitude for the abundance of God's gifts by caring for God's world and being mindful of the environment in all we do.

Inclement Weather Policy and Practices

Church services continue / Parishioners urged to put safety first in deciding whether to come

I certainly do not want anyone to take uncomfortable risks to attend church, and scheduled program and worship leaders should feel comfortable simply staying at home if they prefer not to venture out. But please know that we will gather for Word and Sacrament at our regularly-appointed times, barring some disaster.
